Truly there would be reason to go mad were it not for musicI may climb perhaps to no great heights, but I will climb alone.

where has that old friend gone?

BLIND MAN IN THE BLEACHERS

Kenny Starr

He's just the blind man in the bleachers to the local hometown fans
And he sits beneath the speakers way back in the stands
And he listens to the play by play, he's just waiting for one name
He wants to hear his son get in the game

But the boy's just not a hero, he's strictly second team
Though he runs each night for touchdowns in his fathers sweetest dreams
He's gonna be a star someday though you might never tell
But the blind man in the bleachers knows he will

And the last game of the season is a Friday night at home
And no one knows the reason but the blind man didn't come
And his boy looks kinda nervous, sometimes turns around and stares
Just as though he sees the old man sitting there

Well, the local boys are tryin' but they slowly lose their will
Another players down and now he's carried from the field
At halftime in the locker room the kid goes off alone
And no one sees him talkin' on the phone

And the games already started when he gets back to the team
And half the crowd can hear his coach yell, "Where the hell you been?"
"Just getting' ready for the second half", is all he'll say
"Cause no you're gonna let me in to play"

And without another word he turns and runs into the game
And though the silence on the field, loudspeakers call his name
It'll make the local papers how the team came from behind
When they saw him playing out his heart to win

And when the game was over the coach asked him to tell
What was it he was thinkin' of that made him play so well
"Well, you knew my Dad was blind", he said, "Tonight he passed away"
"It's the first time that my father's seen me play"

You can stand under my umbrella

I just went back and read my xanga posts from years past.  I seem to complain a lot   But regardless, it was neat to remember certain events that I had forgotten or smile at strong opinions that I may or may not still have.  What happens when xanga dies?  Or when I can't remember my password anymore??  All my quirky posts will be lost forever.  So I think I should print them out for safe keeping... at least until a house fire consumes them all.

To the gang at the MWF :  get some rest.  Love ya guys.  miss frisbee.  wish I could hear bolero.  send me postcards.  or at LEAST leave me a message.  y la ultima cosa - que pasa loco?

God's Wheel by Shel Silverstein
GOD says to me with a kind
of smile, "Hey how would you like
to be God awhile And steer the world?"
"Okay," says I, "I'll give it a try.

Where do I set?
How much do I get?
What time is lunch?
When can I quit?"

"Gimme back that wheel," says GOD.
"I don't think you're quite ready YET."

where does the strength come from the see the race to its end? from within

Alright!  Here I am!  Has it really been this long since the 1.574 people who read my xanga posts have heard from me?  Well no more waiting.  I know you check your email every 30 seconds just to see if there is a notification about my latest post, and now all your persistance has paid off!  I can probably blame my lack of posts on school....ya know, the whole college thing (that and Facebook --I'm pretty sure that has taken my attention a tad bit more than it used to/should).

Anyway, I have a couple areas to address on this lovely evening!  Firstly, my experience during my initial year at UNC surprised me to no end.  I'm a voice/violin major and have grown to love the music department already.  I won't say much more about college except that it's worlds different from anything I ever expected (which is a good and bad thing), and one never knows quite what to expect.

OK, so my next subject to touch upon will strike some of you as odd and a little intense, but it's something that has been on my mind lately.  Listen up boys, you need to hear this.  I'm not sure if you male types are aware of the battle that your sisters are engaged in on a daily basis.  Basic fact:  Every single girl worries/thinks about her appearance much more than any boys realize.  The idea that the media feeds us (namely -- girls need to be skinny) has a huge effect on us.  Many girls won't admit it, but often our lives are consumed with wanting to be skinnier, or wanting to have a certain physical trait.  Honestly, this is a form of bondage, and can be so incredibly hard for females to deal with.  Even if a girl doesn't have an eating disorder or whatever, the emotional/spiritual effects of thinking we need to achieve an image are quite detrimental.  This isn't one of those things where a girl can say "oh, well I don't really need to look like that 'cause that is just the media".  No sir, this is something that is so ingrained in us, that is takes a bit more work than that to convince us that beauty is not what we've been told by anyone and everyone out there (I mean, really.... pick up ANY magazine, watch ANY movie/tv show, tune in to the ranting and raving on the radio about a new fat burning pill).  So although you guys have probably heard this already, you can be of help.  What is a girl supposed to think when she hears her brothers commenting on how beautiful Keira Knightly is (all 85 pounds of her...).  Understand that this is a much bigger deal and harder battle than you imagine.

Tune in next time for something a little lighter ...such as a discourse on flowers that compliment each other in a bouquet
